Lockdown three (for the UK) is finally coming to an end on Monday 12th and myself and many others are itching to get back into the gyms, for some that excitement comes with some post-lockdown anxiety.
Here are some tips if you are feeling anxious to getting back into the gym
- If you can, go early in the morning before work or during the day – During these times the gym is much quieter as when it hits 5pm a lot of people will go after work, if the gym is more crowded you are more likely to feel uncomfortable.
- Go with a friend or family member – Working out together is a great way to push each other to achieve more and have support, exercise can be so much fun!

- Wear headphones and create an upbeat playlist, music choices can effect the way you feel, choose songs that motivate you, having a playlist set up then takes out scrolling through your phone for ages looking for a song.
- Follow a plan – If you know exactly what you are doing whilst in the gym it takes any anxiety out of the equation, you don’t want to be wondering about trying to figure out what to do next, ask me for details on my gym plans (All online coaching includes so much more than just a generic cookie cutter plan)
- Eat a varied diet of whole foods, drink enough water and get good, quality sleep – Treat your body like a temple, if you are constantly feeding it processed, packaged foods and takeaway’s instead of natural, whole foods you’re going to feel like crap – Same goes for if you don’t have a proper sleep schedule and don’t drink enough water (Ask me about nutritional advice!) This will then make you feel unmotivated and like you’re running on fumes at the gym.
For some people (some of my clients included) they want nothing to do with a gym and find it an intimidating and uncomfortable place to be, but exercise and taking care of your physical and mental health doesn’t mean you have to workout in a gym.
Home workouts have become increasingly popular during lockdown and I can see why!
Benefits include
- Comfort and privacy in your own home
- No commute
- Equipment (if any) is always free
- Access to private toilet and kitchen for the post workout meal within a few steps
Cons
- Missed opportunity to meet other people who share the same health and fitness goals
- Socialising with a PT or having 1:1 sessions
With an online coach (me) You can still meet other people with the same goals, by joining my Coached by Kashima team and getting inspiration, motivation and support from other members.

You can also have online sessions and feel as if I’m in the room with you, without ever leaving your home! This might really benefit mums or dads who are taking care of young children, those with hectic work schedules or anyone who might be suffering with some post Covid gym anxiety.
Exercise means lots of different things to different people, for some it means fat loss.
For some it means lowering their blood pressure or reducing symptoms of arthritis!
Whatever your goals, you can get there with the proper guidance and plans set in place for you to succeed.
Invest in your body and mind today and make the next year the healthiest you yet.
We must realise post Covid that taking care of our health is more important than ever now, regular exercise (even just 20 minutes a day!) should be as routine in your schedule as brushing your teeth!
Take the first step into creating a healthier, happier and stronger you today by taking part in a free phone consultation with me! Ask me any questions regarding coaching and if it doesn’t sound like its for you then it’s not a problem!
